It was another hectic week in VAULT world, with events aplenty across the UK and Ireland.
I’ve decided to dish out my three ‘Player of the Week’ awards first. So, let’s begin.
WADC – Eve Watson (Wales)
This Welsh lady almost won last week, narrowly pipped to the post by Eleanor Cairns. The Saints youngster edged it purely by bravely venturing into the town of Oldham to compete. Even if she’d gone out in the first round, that would have been enough for some level of recognition. Anyway… she won it.
So this time, Ms Watson gets the nod. Not because she risked her life in a town inhabited by some of the strangest humans I’ve ever seen – aside from those in films – but because not only did she win, her averages seriously impressed me.
Everyone knows this girl can chuck, but when you’re an amateur on VAULT night throwing in mid-90 averages, it’s probably time to let someone else have a go!
ADC UK – Steve Haggerty (England)
I was torn on this one. But then Steve got in touch regarding his ‘Hatrick Hero Hall of Fame’ honour and quickly reminded me he’d actually won four.
Yeah… still a hat-trick, mate!
The fact he was even arsed enough to write in impressed me the most. But he is, in fact, correct – four it was. That said, he should know.
Interesting pub names too. The Danish Invader, for those still having nightmares about Viking raids from hundreds of years ago. Retford Snooker Club, which is about as bizarre as finding big green tables in a darts social spot.
Then there’s the Iron Ram in Derby. Quite the frightening thought. A rather unpredictable animal that’s impossible to injure. And finally, the East Belgrave Conservative Club, which, try as I might, I can’t really do much with.
Well done, Steve… and thanks for watching, son!
ADC Ireland – Mark Rowan (Ireland)
Another close call. Three lads over in this particular part of the Emerald Isle bagged a brace. So Mark edges it purely because he produced the highest average of the three in one of his wins at Stanley’s in Collon – which, for those not as familiar with Irish geography as I am, is located in County Louth.
That was the venue of Rowan’s first title, and he did it with an impressive 90.18 average. No, it wasn’t Teaghan Sheils’ 95.94 in Naas, which was the highest average of the week. But Mark won two, so he gets the nod.
On Friday, Rowan completed the brace, this time at Foley’s Bar in Drogheda with an average just shy of 80. But it was enough. Quick Guinness and home – perhaps. Oh, and I assure you, he is smiling inside.
Well done to all three. I am virtually saluting you. Clapping now.
