It’s rare that I dedicate an entire article to the current oche achievements of a commentator and host of his own TV show, but nonetheless, here we are.
Last week, Matt Edgar flew off to Las Vegas to compete in the WDF World Masters.
And yes, before anyone emails in, I am fully aware that Matt has previously competed on the PDC circuit. It’s just funnier to say, “Bloke from comms box does well in major tournament.” Or at least, for the sake of this piece, it is.
For over a decade, Edgar was a regular on the ProTour. It would be fair to say the Doncaster-born lad didn’t quite reach the heights of a certain female player hailing from the same Yorkshire town. But then again, she isn’t the star of Beau TV. Yet.
So off Matt went to Sin City with dreams, aspirations and a shriek of delight from partner Jodie Paine, who could look forward to a peaceful week without her fella rabbiting on about darts.
Once he arrived, out came the darts and, of course, the video camera. It’s getting to the point where, when Edgar goes for a dump, there’s a good chance we’ll have a full Hollywood-style visual analysis of the event uploaded to Facebook within the hour. You’ll feel even more sympathy for Jodie as this article continues.

However, Miss Paine — an ironic surname to describe the experience of dating Matt — will at least be happy when her man returns home with a few quid. Now, this is the WDF, so we aren’t talking life-changing sums. They may be able to dine on fine fillet steaks for about a week and pay the electricity bill, but that’s probably about it.
In the World Masters, Edgar rolled back the years and produced some vintage darts before eventually bowing out at the quarter-final stage to Sean Fisher.
Matt even had a go at cricket. And no, he didn’t shine a red ball before steaming in and aiming it at an unsuspecting opponent. This was the darting version. Much like the England team in the traditional sport, he did quite well without going all the way, eventually losing to champion Jeff Smith in, once again, the quarter-finals.
It was so nearly a title for Prime Time, though, as he went all the way to the final of the World Open before being pipped at the post by Dutchman Moreno Blom. Don’t worry if you missed it. There’s bound to be a video popping up shortly, complete with full commentary, tactical analysis and possibly a director’s cut.
All in all, then, it was a successful week for Mr Edgar, who will now return to Blighty and resume his microphone duties.

Jodie, if you’re still there on Monday waiting for Matt to get home, well, you had your chance, love. Don’t blame us if you’re bored senseless by Wednesday after watching several hours of unedited footage featuring views from your boyfriend’s hotel room.
Joking aside, well done, mate. If I were Kipling, the cake bloke, I’d say you played exceedingly well.
