Congratulations from all at Bang On Target to the MODUS Super Series’ latest weekly champion, Alec Small, who defeated Sam Spivey in a thrilling last-leg decider to claim his third title in Pompey.
The Welshman has a surname completely unbefitting of his stature. Okay, he’s no Cor Dekker, standing as tall as a giraffe being given a piggyback by his brother. But Alec is far from Justin Hood stature either. That said, apart from extras in a Snow White pantomime, who is?
At the start of Finals Day, the two who ended up battling it out for the prize were pitted in the same round robin trio as Ireland’s Dylan Slevin. This wasn’t just a case of the MODUS bosses going, “Oh, just stick everyone beginning with S in the same group.” No, purely the way it turned out.
Then in the other, you had Ryan Branley, who looks like he’s got school on Monday morning, Oliver King and ladies’ favourite Graham Hall, who was just there to boost the women’s figures for Pluto TV. Just kidding, G-Man!
And it’s clear I was jesting, as Hall ended up playing Scarborough Sam Spivey in the first semi, who is without a nickname. Surely Spiveyman is crying out there, lad? It’s that obvious, he’s either dismissed the idea because he’s a massive Batman fan or just doesn’t think he is worthy of the web-slinging superhero.

Perhaps not when it comes to climbing buildings or swinging through skyscrapers fighting seemingly villains all with doctorates, but stick him on an oche and he throws a mean dart. Anyway, he overcame Hall 4-2 in semi number one.
Then in the second, it was Alec Small just edging it in a shoot-out leg against young Ryan Branley. The Geordie has already picked up titles and, whilst it wasn’t his night on this occasion, it surely will be soon.
Onto the final – Small versus who I am going to moniker Spiveyman, even if he isn’t. And for the second time in two matches, the chucker from Wattsville – which sounds like the place Thomas Edison might have invented the lightbulb, then hung around for a while because he loved daffodils and sheep – did the business again in a last-leg decider.
That’s Alec Small safely – albeit precariously – into Champions Week, which he has about a month to wait for before returning to the Live Lounge in Portsmouth for a shot at the big bucks and an even better trophy holding photograph for his Facebook page.
