It’s six of the best for Scott Taylor on MODUS Super Series duty, making it half a dozen titles in the Live Lounge with victory in the final over Ron Meulenkamp.
For those unfamiliar with Taylor – he is no relation to the GOAT. Well, I am assuming that but it’s a small world. This chap is from Bolton. And despite never securing a PDC Tour Card, has enjoyed plenty of outing mixing it with the big boys dating back to 2018.
Which, in darts terms, is a bit like continually getting invited to the best parties despite never actually owning a membership card. Fair play to him.
In fact, in that first year, he reached a final of the Players Championship, foiled by some bloke called Van Gerwen in Wigan. Wonder what happened to him? Then a solitary showing in Barnsley six years ago was Scott’s last jaunt there – lasting as long as a pizza left on the table of a slim fast meeting. Out first round.
However, all that was a distant memory after the Lancastrian made it six MODUS Super League titles despite Wikipedia being in dire need of updating – only giving the 34-year old credit for one. Bang out of order internet lads. Whoever edits that page has clearly been putting in fewer shifts than Erling Haaland. Come on lads, keep up.

On Finals Night, Scott was put in a group with self-proclaimed African sex God of tungsten, Devon Petersen and Lewis Pride who bears a resemblance to a young Uncle Albert. Both Taylor and Beard-Face beat Dev. No he wasn’t busy shaping his beard and got timed out – just lost to each of them. Then Taylor got the better of Grizzly in a match where they both knew they were thru to the semi’s anyway.
Over in the other round robin section, Ron ‘The Bomb’ Meulenkamp – who has a nickname you really don’t want to make public at an airport – overcame former crap English comedian, Lee Evans, and James Marcroft to advance. Once a regular on our TV screens – somewhat bewilderingly – Britain finally realised what I knew from day one. Lee Evans is about as funny as someone sticking a Cornetto up your arse with a tax bill attached to it.
Then in said semis, both were whitewash wins for Taylor over Marcroft and Meulenkamp against Pride which, whilst wasn’t good for them, great for fans wanting to watch the end of the MODUS Super Series and get to the pub for the England vs Norway World Cup match.

For the showdown though, Scott’s superior finishing over the Dutchman was the main difference. Similar averages but the Bolton lad was far more clinical on the outer ring. The Bomb just didn’t explode on his doubles, instead being more like a Tesco’s firework in the rain. Or one of those party poppers where the string comes off in your hand and everyone awkwardly pretends it still counted.
Had Meulenkamp of been deadlier, then it may have been a different story. But it’s not how you start legs, it’s who finishes them. And Taylor was the winner on that score and in the match too.
Congrats to him. Did the whole ‘MC shout name out’ followed by a ‘I’m not going to hand you the trophy – it’s there. Bloody well pick it up yourself’ routine. Scott wasn’t arsed if Obama Bin Laden did the presentation – although I dare say, would have probably been a little bit surprised at MODUS’s choice. Anyway, he’s brown bread which isn’t close to how irrelevant it would have been.
That’s £5k in Scott’s sky-rocket and books his spot for Champions Week for a shot at £25k. I’ve been to Bolton. Trust me, he would get a statue built there and clean out Lidl if won that!
